The Future of Cannabis Marketing Event Speaker Spotlight: Katherine Wolf

On February 7, 2023, the Cannabis Marketing Association is hosting our third annual Future of Cannabis Marketing event. This forward-thinking, half-day virtual Ted-style event will discuss the cannabis future we want and what cannabis mar-com leaders need to do to shape this future.

Meet Katherine Wolf, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer at Malek’s Premium Cannabis, and get a sneak peek at her presentation:

What topic will you be speaking about at the Future of Cannabis Marketing?

My session will unpack what experiential marketing is, how cannabis brands and retailers can find value in this approach, and why it’s the future of engagement in our industry. Then, I’ll take a deeper dive into various ways cannabis companies can actually ideate, implement, and measure the success of their own experiential marketing strategy.

Why is what you are discussing at the event interesting and important?

As the cannabis market continues to mature, more companies are entering the space, which means customers have more product choices than ever before. So, brands must find another way to differentiate. Rather than product-focused advertising around a one-time use item, the future of marketing is in speaking to the holistic lifestyle of cannabis consumers; creating hands-on experiences that invite them into your world so they can see and feel what their lives would be like as a part of it. This approach empowers cannabis brands and retailers to form deeper connections with their audiences that ultimately result in long-term loyalty, passionate brand advocates, and repeat purchases.

What is your background in the cannabis marketing industry?

Katherine Wolf is a marketer, published writer, and branding specialist in the cannabis space. She is the Chief Marketing & Operations Officer of Malek’s Premium Cannabis, a small-batch boutique cultivator operating out of Denver, Colorado. Katherine has a B.S. in Marketing & Economics from The University of Tampa and extensive experience in branding, digital marketing, and copywriting for B2C and B2B brands from the startup to enterprise level. After working at two award-winning creative marketing agencies with clients focused in the technology, hospitality, and manufacturing industries, she started her cannabis career in 2020 with a national grow supply and hydroponics retailer before shifting into cultivation marketing. Today, she is passionate about advocating for women in cannabis leadership and safe access to cannabis education and products for all. She is an active member of numerous industry organizations and has been published in media outlets including Skunk Magazine, Northwest Leaf, MJ Brand Insights, California Leaf, Oregon Leaf, Marijuana Venture Magazine, and more.

What do you bring to the cannabis marketing industry that sets you apart?

As a Chief Marketing & Operations Officer, I feel my my role has given me a unique perspective on how to balance creative marketing initiatives with data and logistics.

Why do you think the future of cannabis marketing is important and why should people be educated about it?

Our industry is only getting more saturated and competitive – at the same time, cannabis consumers are getting more educated and evolving their preferences. As marketers, we have a unique opportunity to deliver the information, authenticity, and transparency customers are craving from modern cannabis companies. I think the future is in doing that in an exciting and engaging way that not only helps individuals have better experiences with cannabis products, but shifts the perception around cannabis usage as a whole to something more positive. It’s important because cannabis marketing is about so much more than just selling products for your brand…it’s about showcasing the power of this plant and working together to move our industry forward!
