The Future of Cannabis Marketing Event Speaker Spotlight: Wes Williams, JD

 

On January 18, 2022, the Cannabis Marketing Association is hosting the Future of Cannabis Marketing event. This forward-thinking, half-day virtual Ted-style event will discuss the cannabis future we want cannabis marcom leaders need to do to shape this future.

Wes Williams will be the first speaker of the day. Learn about his background and what he will be talking about:

What topic will you be speaking about at the future of cannabis marketing event?

Everyone who engages with the plant does so for specific reasons and in pursuit of particular effects. I’m really excited to share the stage and talk about ‘Why Effects-Driven Marketing and Functional Products are the Future of Cannabis’.

Why is what you are discussing at the event interesting and important?

As our industry continues to mature, we have an amazing opportunity and responsibility as marketers and creators to truly broaden the circle of inclusion and promote ways for people to experience the benefits of cannabis in real-life. The more people we can bring to the plant, the greater impact we can have on the world. This is an extremely exciting and critical time to be in cannabis.

What is your background in the cannabis marketing industry?

I have a B.S.Econ. from the Wharton School in Marketing Analytics (with a minor in Poetic Composition) and a JD from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. I’ve spent the last 5-years working in the cannabis industry as a strategy consultant, executive of a vertically-integrated medical cannabis company, and, most recently, the co-founder of KND Infusions, a function, infused edibles company launching in Spring of 2022. Prior to working in cannabis, I spent 10+ years in the corporate world holding Director and VP level roles in operations, transactional law, corporate strategy, and human resources operations.

What do you bring to the cannabis marketing industry that sets you apart?

I’ve built my career using data and a creative operational mindset to design and implement tools, systems, and structures to solve complex problems. My main motivation in life and in my work is to bring useful and practical things into existence. I’m a data nerd who loves mining the opportunities hidden in the data, and the cannabis marketing industry has a lot of really intriguing insights to extract.

Why do you think the future of cannabis marketing is important and why should people be educated about it?

As marketers and product creators in our nascent industry, we get to define the story of cannabis through marketing. Unlike other industries with our market potential, cannabis marketers are writing the chapter of the cannabis story. This is way more interesting and impactful than just drafting the epilogue for an older industry.
